transfer music from iPod to iPhone

I'm thinking of purchasing the 8 gb iPhone but want to know if I'll have procedure to get my playlists/music from an iPod to my new (potentially) iPhone.

Yes, let me explain.

iTunes (incredibly stupidly) does not allow this. There are however alternatives to perform the procedure. I'm not sure if they can copy the whole iTunes database information stuff or just the actual MP3 files.
