Streaming media really is the market, especially if U already have control over all audio files so people have to pay Itune’s. Apples blunder onto the web, will be remembered and some monopolistic play they have to control, software, hardware, textting, audio files, and even their MPEG4 format will in the end be what kills them. Just look at their actions this is why we do not need these Corporate Pirates in control, and why in the end they will be replaced. People want a true free market place, why they want the net in the first place and even if they never use it just the thought the guy across the street is getting access to things they NEVER will be at least one of the things that kill this plan. I did think apple was really going to take over the mobile net industry, but now I can see another better player taking over in a 1 or so. |

Well, we have strayed well off topic, and I'm not going to have some freshman college debate on corporations or "the man", so to bring it back around: I would hope that some OS update down the road will allow more functionality that we are accustomed to with the web, but bearing in mind that this is not a laptop and we (reasonably) cannot expect every single little thing to work like it does on a full computer. At least not yet. I'll say this: the iPhone is a big leap in the evolution of the SmartPhone/Pocket PC market, but those people that are wanting perfection right out of the gate are fooling themselves. No amount of testing, market research and opinion polls can account for putting a product into the hands of he public and letting them find flaws. There will always be better product, and there will always be people bitching about why it's not better. Love them or hate them, Apple has done a good thing for the mobile PC world, by setting the bar higher than it has been in years. Even RIM will probably be rethinking their interface; and watch your back if you mess with a BlackBerry user's interface! -a Okay, one response: the idea that, because of this utopian idea of a "free market", Apple will be "replaced" because of their proprietary hardware, software, textting (sic), audio files and MPEG4 format is ludicrous. The reason that iTunes is the #3 music store (ahead of Amazon) is because they have created a service that, not only do people use because of it's simplicity, but because that's how people want their music. iPods and iTunes are cross platform, you can run Windows natively on mac hardware, I don't understand your complaint about texting, and Quicktime plays multiple formats. If you truly want a free market, you should be bitching at the public, since their the ones perpetuating the status quo. This whole mentality of some sort of mind-f#ck that has duped the world is laughable. They may have supplied the Kool-Aid, but it's our faults for drinking it. |

If Apple is smart they will give up any idea for controlling file types on the WWW ya I am sure they would LOVE for U to pay them in Itunes every time U want to use something or do something on the WWW. But the WWW is going the OTHER direction bigger sites that will take longer and longer to load if apple does not work with the web the web will be the ones making their browser worthless on most sites people want to see. Apple can try if they wish too takeover a free market place, but I am sure they know how far they can take this. Their is NO way apple can create everything U want from your internet experience, and other cell phone's are right behind them not more than 2-3 years I would bet now that its out. If they do not “play ball” it will be over for them before the 3rd inning. As far as the “Kool-Aid” thing I just have to say OMFG all we need is a O’reilly nut around. IF U take that show seriously or think its “news” in anyway your opinions on any subject should be in question at the very least Just my Fair and Balanced Opinion Last edited by MaxPower; 07-03-2007 at 03:23 PM. |

Well the most important point is that it cannot play streaming videos. I don't think only youtube is enough. They should've fixed the flash support before launching it.

| Controlling File Types?!
MaxPower, with all due respect, all of the formats that Apple is pushing/supporting, particularly with the iPhone are STANDARDS. They don't own them. AAC (iTunes audio CODEC) is a standard. Advanced Audio Coding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and MPEG4 and H.264 also are standard formats. It's Flash that is an example of a proprietary one. Not going to re-post what I already said about Flash on another thread, (and totally not trying to flame you bro. I hate flame wars, they're pointless). But the way you were framing your argument was inaccurate. Apple is a company like any other in that they of course have their own interests represented, but as a developer I can tell you that Flash in particular runs the hell out of a processor and that consumes battery and that is something you want to avoid on a mobile phone. And the thing has been out for 5 days. Little early to be declaring it a success or a failure. So far, seems good for Apple, and I can say I'm really really happy with mine. (I finally don't have to carry an iPod, a Phone AND a Palm. And I *hated* the Palm...) But, you're probably wise to hold off and wait a bit and see what shakes out. Cheers! -Mobi |

Oh I am happy now, Apple gave me what I wanted anyway already. I would like the US to put up more Hot Spots, or Hot Cities that offer free Wi Fi but that is my biggest problem now and has little to do with apple. A faster connection would be nice, but we are going to have to meet them ½ way on that. Its going to get better Iphone is brand new many sites will come around made for Iphone or that are at least fully complaint. I am sure Flash will be next, but even if we never get flash I am really koo with it. Its just decorative mainly, good for ads and some porn sites also kids sites (ever observed how similar the 2 really are as far as design?) Navigation is flash is pointless, and anyone that used mostly flash in their sites probably should not have done that in the first place. Hell man I LOVE apple right now, they are making my life as easy as they can I guess |

Well the iphone is one of its kind. No doubt Apple has dominated the market for so long and it will do so in future.

I've said it, and now Mobi has chimed in: it hasn't even been a week, calm the f#ck down and see where this all goes before you start declaring it's s#it. And if you are going to have a lengthy debate with someone online, have the courtesy to write in english and not text speak so that it doesn't take two reads to understand your point. Oh, and spell check too. -a | |
