Exclamation tripping circuits

I have a new iPhone 3G. When it is waved next to a grounded outlet, the circuit pops. This seems to happen MAYBE only when it is receiving data, but I'm unsure about that. We called Apple Support and after a 20 minute wait for the genius to speak to a supervisor, we were told to hurry to the nearest Apple store and get a new phone, that they'd never heard of this happening.

Questions: 1) has anyone ever experienced this? 2) is it dangerous? 3) do I really need to get a new iPhone? 4) why might this be occurring?

I should add that, when my iPhone is sitting next to my roller bar mouse, the mouse is paralyzed.

Anyone? Bueller?
