thats bad,
i have at least 3-4 numbers of all contacts
it would become so tedious to keep adding a new contact and a new detail every single time

international dialling code makes absolutely zero difference. When an SMS message is sent it is shown with an international dialling code, when someone calls you it isn't. It doesn't make a difference with the name showing. I have ALL of my contacts saved under international dialling codes as I travel abroad.
Likewise, it won't cost you any more to dial the number with an international dialling code than it would to dial it normally, unless you're dialling an international code to an area you're not in. I.e. dialling +44 (uk) from the US.
I think it's EXTREMELY likely that the problem you're having is because you have the number saved under 2 contacts?
I.e. your home phone number is also saved under your partner's name. Most phones have problems with this; If the number is logged under several names then the phone doesn't know which to show; thus it will just show the number. So if you have a home phone number it's probably best to store it as a separate contact completely...
Hope this helps (and I wish there was a fix; i.e. it just displayed all the names that the number was logged under! Would be better than a random number you don't have a clue about!)
Also, it doesn't make a difference whether you have 10 numbers stored under 1 contact. When the person rings it will say the contact's name at the top, and then the description of the phone number directly underneath. There is no need to add each number in as a different contact. it defeats the object of having contacts and takes us back to the old days of storing numbers on sim cards 1 number per entry. (Saying that, perhaps if you have for example 3 work numbers under one contact that could confuse it; I always edit the labels; i.e. if they have more than 1 mobile [cell] number then I'd write the label of it; i.e. Work mobile, personal mobile, o2 number, AT&T number, 1st mobile etc. That way each number under that contact has a different desciption otherwise who knows which of the numbers to ring? You'd have to memorise, in which point why both saving them on your phone in the first place?! To change the description you edit/add the phone number, tap the label underneath the number with the description and it will bring you a list, i.e. home, work etc. scroll down to the bottom where it says 'add custom label'. Once you have added a label it will remain on the phone for you to use again. You can't delete these labels as far as I know!)
