iPhone Domain Names

If you are an owner of any iPhone domains which were bough on and or after 1-9-2007, be prepared for the Apple legal team to come after you. They have already come after us, and we have had to re-brand our site.

Yeha that's one thing about trademarks and domain names. It's not really fair but I guess they are protecting their name and investment. I wonder if they may come after sites like these?

Knowing apple, they most certainly will. I also suspect that they won't buy the domains but will rather domain custody of them. Personally, i'm not going to be rushing off to buy one.

I know iphone.com was registered many years ago so I assume Apple actually had to purchase that one. So I guess people who registered prior to the date as posted in the first post are lucky. Any one after is unlucky.

Yeah, iPhone.com was purchased in 1995.. way before the announcement of the iPhone.

From what I was told, Apple is gonna go after the more popular sites first and then trickle down to just the domain name squatters. Also yes, they will just be taking the domain names and not offering to buy them since they / Cisco own the rights to the trademark.

Apple did this same thing years ago when the iPod came out. They screwed over a ton of iPod based sites.. even sites which had no banner ads on them. Apple has always been very firm on protecting their trademarks and rights..

I dont know about all this, just look at IPodporn.com they are still around. I think they will shut down any site that is interfering with something they want to sell, like software or maybe some of the converter sites (I have Iphone-DVD.com that is good for that) But they are encouraging people to create sites for Iphone users, so not sure they will be going after I-love-my-Iphone.com any time soon. They might go after a few but like I said will be mainly to protect products and services THEY want to sell.

They really could do this, but it will take years and years, and if they did not want people to buy Iphoneporn.com then they should have picked the domain up for 8$ and saved everyone the trouble. I think they will definitely walk the line on this one, as they need these Iphone sites more than they want U to think they do. As their customers will want them and need to find them easy

I do agree with everything you are saying here. I think either way, yeah its a risk because say a year down the line Apple decides they want iPhonechat.com. This would really hurt the site. Either way, the word "iphone" is trademarked and it would be a slam dunk for Apple to takedown any site it wants legally at anytime. This is scary for any website owner.

Maybe iPodPorn.com has made allot of money from its site and was able to litigate it out to where they won. Who knows.. right? Maybe it would have been bad PR for Apple to say it went after the site and or any site because of a domain name. Its all a gamble more or less.. All I can say is that, we have been contacted by Apple with a cease and desist and was given 48 hours to take down the domain. Which tells me, more sites will fall victim to this.

Sorry about that, I wonder if they found your site on the boards or not. But I bet they want to sell wallpapers or have a agreement to sell them with someone else is why they went after U so fast.

Its a possibility.. who knows. They obviously want to control ringtones also. So who knows..

iphonewallpapers.com does forward to this domain name, so its a possibility.

Ya its going to be a gamble, but this board owns Iphoneporn.com too why I use that domain so much, and he also has many other I would be happy to get my hands on

But U see how fast they went after U but leave this board and all his domains alone, and they have to be Really easy to find. Would love to get some comment from the board owner.

This was way up on my thinking when getting domains though, I got many that have Iphone in them very early on, but I also got many that come really really close to it, with out using the exact word Iphone in them. So either way I can be as easy to find for iphone users as possible. Like instead of just IphonePorn.com that I could get in trouble I also have IphoningPorn.com and Xphoneporn.com. Either way I came to play so what ever they want to do will matter very little
